Allowing IP cameras to transmit over coax cabling is exciting technology which allows installation of IP cameras in applications that previously were not permitted. The Ethernet over coax technology allows the EtherStretch™ system to extend IP cameras beyond cable distance limitations and also acts as a PoE inserter. A single channel EtherStretch™ system includes both the transmitter and receiver units. The System transmits IP cameras over coax and can quickly turn any ordinary RG59U coaxial cable into a high speed network communication & PoE path. When operating over RG59U coaxial cable, the IP camera extender can operate for distances of up to 500 meters (1,640 feet). The Ethernet over Coax extender system consist of a transmitter and receiver which require very little installation time & absolutely no set up or configuration. An IP cameras over coax system is transparent to the network and have no IP or MAC addressing. Simply connect your network devices to the network ports of the EtherStretch™ IP cameras over coax transmitter and receiver along with existing cabling and the system begins communicating. LED indicators show the status of IP cameras and network communication in addition to the PoE power status.

When connected to a PoE switch, power from the switch is used as the power source for the connected IP camera over coax receiver. In applications where network switches are not PoE capable, an optional power source can be used to insert power to the receiver. The power is sent from the receiver over the coax to the transmitter. The EtherStretch™ transmitter uses PoE as its power source and powers the connected PoE network device as well. The coax network extender system extends network communications over coax to overcome cable distance limitations offering connections to devices in locations traditional networking does not allow.

Installing CCTV cameras outdoors is not uncommon. Replacing traditional analog cameras can be quite challenging due to the cable distance limitations used in standard networking practices.  IP Camera Surge Protection and Ethernet Extenders 

When upgrading CCTV camera systems from analog to IP, there are other items that may be required to complete the installation. Many times we overlook items such as surge protection for our connected IP devices. IP cameras unparticular are devices that are installed outside of traditional network parameters. We install cameras outside, on light poles elevated several feet above surrounding structures, in the middle of open parking lots, freight yards and constructions sites. In addition we mount cameras to metal structures, building overhangs, and grid work next to high voltage devices in industrial applications such as rooftop air conditioners, lighting ballast, voice and PA systems, assembly line cranes, CNC machines and other devices known to introduce surges, transients and spike into surrounding low voltage cabling.
